Real-Time GNSS Expert at Spire

We are looking for a Real-Time GNSS Expert to join our Glasgow office. The Real-Time GNSS Expert will be an integral part of a small but agile team tasked with using large quantities of satellite data assimilated into an ionosphere model to create real-time corrections to improve the accuracy of GNSS location-based services and other applications.

Positioning errors from ionospheric effects on GNSS signals remain one of the last hurdles in improving GNSS-based positioning accuracies. Spire satellites have the unique capability to globally measure TEC and scintillation indices and provide near real-time estimates of ionospheric delay and disturbance effects on GNSS services. The Real-Time GNSS Expert will help transform the outputs of an ionosphere model and data assimilation system into useful near real-time corrections to GNSS location-based services and their providers, leading to greater confidence in applications that require high accuracy and resiliency, such as autonomous vehicle navigation.

Responsibilities of your role:

  • Evaluate customer needs for GNSS services, specifically for applications requiring real-time corrections of ionosphere-induced positioning errors (e.g., autonomous vehicle navigation)
  • Work with the ionosphere modelling and data assimilation teams on defining system requirements based on delivering for the customers
  • Coordinate delivery of GNSS correction products output from the ionosphere model and assimilation system to a customer API for real-time delivery of these products
  • Interact with customers and plan pilot projects that will transform into long-term contracts for real-time GNSS corrections services

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Direct experience in GNSS signal processing and observables and the needs for improving GNSS corrections for end users.
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in remote sensing, preferably satellite microwave radar and/or radiometry, electrical engineering, applied physics, or related field and a publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Strong Linux computer skills.
  • Experience with programming and analysis in Python (preferred) or Matlab/Octave.
  • Strong background in physics, mathematics, and statistics.
  • Intimate knowledge of GNSS signal processing, navigation, and corrections for various error sources.
  • Experience processing large quantities of GNSS data into geoscience observables.
  • Exceptionally well-organized, with the ability to go as deep as needed in any project to identify and resolve problems.
  • Adaptability to new ideas and the ability to push the envelope of GNSS capabilities to deliver unique solutions for various applications.

Strong candidates will also possess skills in one or more of the following areas:

  • Experience with customers of GNSS services, including real-time corrections for vehicle navigation.
